On 17 August the civilian aero clubs "Vliegclub Ursel" and "Aero Club Brugge" organized the "Wing & Wheels" show at the Ursel Airfield, situated in Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium. This former reserve airfield of the NATO and now the Belgium AirForce was host of this event. The event is always planned for the Saturday and Sunday, with on both days some fly-by's and ground starts of the gathered aircraft. But on Friday however I had the chance to see the arrivals of the aircrafts on the airfield, with some of the most spectacular arrivals and fly-by's of the aircrafts not seen on most big airshows. Before each participant was going to land a "very" low fly-by was flown. A great list of pre-WO-II and WO-II birds where gathered for this event, with for me as personal highlight the MD312 Flamant & PBY 5A Catalina. Absolute highlight would have been the OV-10 Bronco, but this was sadly delayed till the end of the day.

A very nice mix of trainers (AT6 Harvard, Harvard MK II, Yak-18, De Havilland Chipmunk, and two Yak 52's), transport (MD 312 Flamant, Avro Anson, PBY Catalina and a Beech 18) and tactical (Fairchild 24R, Stinson L5, Auster MK5 and a Piper L4) WO-II birds where flown to this event. Special visitor was a Shorts Tucano from RAF base Linton-on-Ouse, due the fact that Ursel B.67 was a RAF home base during the 1944 liberation period. And last but definitely not least was a very surprising, and last low fly-by of the last Fouga CM-170 Magister flown by pilot LtCol Paul Rorive. Three low and high angle fly-by's where performed over the runway, saying goodbye for the last time. During the period all the aircrafts where arriving, good weather was over the airfield with some puffy white clouds and blue skies as the background. To the end of all the arrivals the weather however turned to gray overcast with some rain. All together reviewed a absolute great arrival day, with some spectacular fly-by's.
