For the 8th edition of the Belgium Helidays some very rarely seen helicopters where gathered on the Liege-Bierset military airbase. The event was scheduled from 11 May till 14 May, with on 12 & 13 May the official show days. The largest helicopter meeting in Europe, and maybe even in the world had a impressive list of participants invited despite ongoing operations in many parts of the world which drains resources and the struggle through the days with overall bad weather. This however did not affect the airshow and the spirit and mood of the organization and the participating pilots and crews. Despite the high winds and rain showers on the Friday, actually through the whole weekend, did all invited participants made it to the Belgium Helibase. The Friday was a perfect day to photograph, as all participants where coming in from all the corners of Europe and where landing in front of you at 5 to 15 meters.
Highlights of this year's event where the Patrulla ASPA from Spain, equipped with five EC.120 training helicopters and performed a very impressive and tight airshow. Other highlights where a Mil-24P Hind from the Hungarian Air Force, and a Mil-24V Hind from the Czech Republic. These two beasts are always eye candy to see them perform, especially when it is against a dark background and highlighted by rays of sun. The Hungarian Hind took also a Mi-17 Hip from his sister squadron to Belgium. Furthermore where also present a French SA.321G Super Frelon, an AS.532AL Cougar and a Bell 412SP from the Slovenian Air Force. A MH-53M Pave Low IV from the USAF Special Forces, two small Italian Hughes 500E's from the 72nd Wing, and two Danish AS-550 Fennecs from the 724 Squadron. And last but certainly not least where the Alouette III and the accompanied Agusta AW-139 from the Irish Air Corps.
The Flying program was spread over the whole day and started on both days around 10:00Lt in the morning. Highlights in the flying program where the earlier stated Patrulla ASPA, and both the Mil-24 Hinds. And furthermore a Swiss Air Force AS.532 Cougar, French SA.341F Gazelle from the ALAT trainings school, a BO-105 Bolkow from The Flying Bulls, a German Heeresflieger EC-135, and a SH14D Lynx from the Royal Dutch Navy 7Sqn. Overall a very well and great organized Belgium Helidays, with special thanks to Patrick Wauters (PAO).
