10 June the Danish AirForce organized a airshow at the Airstation Aalborg, in the outmost north corner of Denmark. Normally a small scale airshow with not very interesting participants, however this year a list of very impressive participants where gathered on the Danish tarmac. With good weather forecasts and a completely confirmed participants list, was a trip to the north of Denmark worthwhile. Highlights of this airshow where; The Italian Frecce Tricolori, a solo display demonstration of a USAF C-17 Globemaster III from the "Flying Pegasus" 729th AS / 452nd Air Mobility Wing based at March ARB, California. A Hungarian Mig-29UB from the 2. Vadászrepülö Század based at Kecskemét, Hungary and a USAF LC-130H Hercules from the 109 AW based at Stratton ANGB, New York on static. And last but certainly not least the very rarely seen Team Iskra from Poland, performed a very nice air display with their four TS-11-100bis Iskra's.
On 9 June a media/spotters day was organised which made it possible to visit every corner of the Airstation where all the participants for the flying display where situated. Also here again a very relaxed atmosphere, and time enough to photograph most of the participants in preparation for their airshow. Even a small stop was "planned" to see the display of the Frecce Tricollori.
On both days a temperature of 30+ Degrees was reached with a blue sky as the beautiful background. However with no wind at all causing a haze over the airfield, and a visible heat blur from 10 to 15 meters high over the runway which made photographing aircrafts in take-off almost impossible. However very hard for a organisation to plan and accommodate each time again is that also at this airshow most of the air display was flown straight against the sun, so you had to be very creative with the angles and position of the plane versus the sun. Overall a very well organized and relaxed airshow, with special thanks to Ann-Christina H. Salquist (PRO Aalborg).
